WHAT IS TAEKWONDO?
"TaeKwonDo" is the technique of unarmed combat for self-defense, involving the skilled application of punches, kicks, flying kicks, stances, blocks, dodges and interceptions with the hands, arms, feet and various other parts of the body to the rapid destruction of the attacker.
TaeKwonDo is more than just a fighting skill--it is a strict physical and mental discipline. Through the coordination of body control, balance and technique, trained in the practice of forms (''hyung" in Korean), this martial art becomes a highly effective means of self-defense, as well as, a practical method of physical fitness. TaeKwonDo is known among the oriental fighting arts for its powerful kicking techniques and primarily linear motions in combat, as opposed to a more circular and ''softer" style such as Kung Fu.
At Strom's Black Belt Academy, we blend the most effective techniques from several styles to prepare you for life, whether defending yourself on the street, the playground, or fighting for gold alongside Team X-Treme. Regardless of the circumstances, we want you, or your child, to feel prepared.
Training at Strom's Black Belt Academy focuses mainly on the "Traditional" training of TaeKwonDo under the instruction of 9th Dan Hall of Fame Grand Master Dick Strom. We also utilize a variety of techniques taught in American TaeKwonDo, Hapki-Do, Judo, Aikido, Jujitsu, Grappling, MMA, Self-Defense,
Self -Awareness and Kubudo (weapons).
We pride ourselves on our professional knowledgeable instructional staff who are fully certified and trained. We keep all our instructors up-to-date on the newest training techniques and teach the best of both old and new strategies.
Our elite Team X-treme travels locally, statewide, and to national level tournaments. We offer Tiny Tigers classes for students ages 3-6, as well as, classes for beginner, intermediate, and advanced belts of all ages. Principles driving our training include: Courtesy, Humility, Integrity, Perseverance, Indomitable Spirit, Self-Control, & Honor. These are the "tenets" of martial arts, which transform your character as you make progress towards your black belt.
